Construction at The Parker in Kansas City continues to make strong progress, with the project now 25% complete and on schedule!

Building 1 has reached several key milestones, including completed columns, stem walls, and underground plumbing and electrical systems that have successfully passed inspection. Meanwhile, Building 2 is moving ahead with completed slab work, stair shaft construction, and nearly all first-level residential wall framing in place.

Exciting activity is also underway across the site as structural steel installation prepares to begin later this month, residential windows arrive, and critical infrastructure work continues. Every step brings us closer to delivering a vibrant mixed-use community that will provide new housing and commercial opportunities in Kansas City.

We are proud to celebrate MBS Urban Initiatives CDE for being recognized as the recipient of the 2026 QLICI Metro QLICI of the Year Award for the Kingswood Community Center project in Wilmington, Delaware! Thank you to Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits for this great recognition.

As the cornerstone "critical community improvement" within the Riverside HUD Choice Neighborhood, the new Kingswood Community Center represents a transformational investment in families, children, and seniors. The project includes the construction of a new 80,000-square-foot multi-use community facility that will create 137 jobs and expand access to essential services and opportunities throughout the community.

The impact of this project is extraordinary. The Montessori-certified Early Learning Center will triple its capacity from 65 to 200 students, the senior center will have room to serve 120 seniors, the community clinic will provide services to 8,000 children and families per year, and expanded after-school programs and summer camps will create 100 new youth program slots.

MBS Urban Initiatives CDE invested $8.25 million of its $50 million 2023 QLICI allocation award to help make this transformative project possible. Since its inception, the CDE has received 12 rounds of QLICI allocation authority totaling more than $650 million, leveraging investment to support catalytic community development projects across the country.

This national recognition highlights the power of strategic investment, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to building healthier, stronger, and more vibrant communities. Congratulations to everyone whose vision, dedication, and hard work helped make this award-winning project a reality!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Leadership Roundtable, “Remembering, Learning, Preparing” at the Delmar Divine.

The Legacy Luncheon Roundtable served as a meaningful working session focused on what the next ten years can look like when the sanctuary is embraced as both a spiritual hub and a physical anchor for neighborhood stabilization and community recovery.

Panel participants included Julian Nicks, the City’s Chief Recovery & Neighborhood Transformation Officer; Bishop Michael F. Jones, Sr. of Friendly Temple MBC; Stephen Westbrooks, President & CEO of SLDC; and Pastor Andre Alexander of Tabernacle CDC.

Special thank you to Spirit of St. Louis Taskforce Chair, Rev. Dr. Linden Bowie, member Adolphus Pruitt, President, St. Louis City NAACP and Daniel Sjogren, Mid-America Transplant, for the opportunity to participate in this Week of Remembrance honoring survivors and first responders.

Together, we continue the important work of remembrance, recovery and rebuilding stronger communities.
