One of the things I love most about real estate is that sometimes we’re able to help people in ways they never expected.
Earlier this year, I met a woman at an estate planning clinic. Recently, she called me with questions about a reverse mortgage situation involving someone she had been a caretaker for. Thankfully, because I helped sell a home with a reverse mortgage last year, I was able to answer many of her questions and help point her in the right direction.
Of course, I always make it clear that I’m not an attorney and I don’t give legal advice, BUT I CAN connect people with trusted attorneys, estate planners, and other professionals who can help.
What made this conversation especially meaningful was discovering during our research that the home was actually held in a TRUST! What started as an unexpected phone call may truly become an answered prayer for her family.
After years of encouraging people to think about estate planning, I’m finally seeing more clients take action and get their trusts in place. It truly makes a difference for families during difficult times.
One important thing many people don’t realize: a Power of Attorney (POA) ends when the person passes away. That’s why proper estate planning and having the right documents in place ahead of time is so important.
Moments like this remind me that real estate is about so much more than buying and selling homes. It’s about relationships, resources, and helping people navigate life’s biggest transitions with confidence.
If you or someone you know has questions about probate, trusts, reverse mortgages, estate situations, or preparing a home for sale, I’m always happy to be a resource or connect you with trusted professionals.
