Just bought a home? 🏡
The first 30 days after closing are more important than most people realize. A few smart steps now can save you money and stress later.
Here’s a quick new homeowner checklist:
🔌 Set up & confirm utilities
Make sure electric, gas, water, trash, and internet are in your name — and locate your main water shut-off and breaker panel.
🏷 File for Homestead Exemption (Oklahoma homeowners!)
If it’s your primary residence, don’t forget to file with the county assessor. It can lower your property taxes — but it’s not automatic.
🔐 Change the locks & reset codes
Rekey exterior doors, reset garage codes, and update any smart home systems.
🛠 Start basic maintenance
Change HVAC filters, test smoke detectors, and schedule a furnace/AC service if you’re unsure when it was last done.
📁 Organize your documents
Keep closing docs, warranties, appliance manuals, and insurance info in one place.
Homeownership is a long game — protecting your investment starts right away.
If you need contractor recommendations or have questions about property taxes here in Tulsa, I’m always happy to help. 👍
