I recently learned about Dog Canyon, a proposed 30-pad community for custom luxury tiny homes in Otero County, New Mexico, near White Sands.

California is investing nearly $31.9 million to build 100 permanent tiny homes for adults 55+ experiencing homelessness, including veterans.

This is not a traditional 55+ tiny home community, but it shows how smaller homes can support senior housing in new ways.

🏡 More states are making it easier to build ADUs.

Nevada just passed a law that requires many local governments to create a path for homeowners to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit, also known as an ADU.

Why does that matter?

ADUs can provide housing for aging parents, adult children, caregivers, or even create rental income.

This doesn't mean every property automatically qualifies. Local rules for setbacks, size, parking, utilities, and HOA restrictions can still apply.

The bigger story is this.

States across the country are looking at ADUs as one way to address housing affordability and help families stay together. I expect we'll continue seeing more states move in this direction.

If you've ever thought about adding an ADU, now is a good time to start paying attention to what's happening in your own state.
