Serena Williams, 44, announced June 1 that she will return to professional tennis at the HSBC Championships in London starting June 6, nearly four years after her 2022 U.S. Open farewell. While away from the court, Williams has been building a sprawling real estate portfolio, primarily in Florida, where she and husband Alexis Ohanian own at least two properties in Jupiter, including a custom-designed primary residence she purchased for $5.7 million in 2017.

That’s what the Emerging Developers Resource Initiative (EDRI) is about: helping homegrown developers learn how to take a project from idea to a real, financeable, buildable plan.

When residents become developers:

They are more likely to protect affordability and stability instead of pushing neighbors out.

They are more likely to hire local, use local contractors, and circulate money in the community.

They bring lived experience to decisions about what gets built, for whom, and why.

EDRI offers a free, hands-on training program on Saturdays starting July 11, designed for emerging developers and community-based entrepreneurs with real projects in mind.

If you know someone who:

Owns or wants to own property in their neighborhood

Has talked about “doing a project” but doesn’t know how to start

Cares about keeping their community strong as it changes
