🏡 SNELLVILLE, GA FUN FACT!

Did you know Snellville was founded by two young English immigrants? 🇬🇧➡️🇺🇸

Thomas Snell and James Sawyer came from London in the 1870s and eventually opened a small store at what is now the intersection of US 78 & GA 124.

Their little mercantile business became so successful that customers traveled from surrounding communities — even as far away as Athens — just to shop there! 🤯

That early store helped establish Snellville as a regional center for commerce, a tradition that continues today.

📍 Snellville was officially incorporated in 1923.

🏡 Bogart, GA Fun Fact

Bogart is one of the few Georgia towns whose name is believed to have been inspired by John Milton Bogart, a railroad official associated with the Seaboard Air Line Railway. 🚂

This was an interesting encounter. I was up in Rabun Co the other day and as I was coming around the corner I heard something in the bushes…. A neighbor was out earlier doing yard work so nothing seemed suspicious until I heard a little grunt & some big bushes moving around….luckily he was not aggressive, but definitely seemed comfortable around people. I was a little jumpy everytime I heard a leaf move while finishing up that inspection haha

Lakemont has a surprisingly interesting connection to Lake Rabun and Georgia’s early hydroelectric era.

When the Tallulah River was dammed in 1915 to create Lake Rabun, the former river valley was transformed into a lake community. Atlanta families began purchasing lakefront property for summer homes, and the Tallulah Falls Railroad became the lifeline for the area—bringing in mail, groceries, freight, and even newspapers.

Lakemont’s historic community center, Alley’s Store, was built in 1925 directly across from the old railroad depot and remains one of the community’s defining historic buildings.

According to local history, the name “Sugar Hill” is believed to have originated from a railroad-era story in which a train carrying a load of sugar had an accident in the area, spilling sugar and inspiring the name.
