Filing an application for a Homestead Exemption with your town could potentially save you several hundred dollars a year toward your town taxes. The exemption provides a reduction of up to $25,000 in the value of your home for property tax purposes.

To Qualify:
1. You must’ve lived in your home for at least 1 year.
2. You must be a permanent resident of Maine.
3. The home must be your permanent residence.

*You have until April 1st to file the application with your municipality.

The form is located on Maine.gov or your local assessor’s office.
