Cape Town's Kloof Road is expected to reopen by mid-December 2026 after being closed for more than three years following severe storm damage.

The road was closed in September 2023 after heavy rainfall damaged the embankment supporting the route. Further damage in 2024 delayed rehabilitation efforts.

The City of Cape Town says most structural repairs are complete, including slope stabilisation, reinforced embankments and upgraded stormwater drainage.

The reopening will restore an important route between the City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard suburbs, although dedicated walking and cycling lanes will not be added.

According to Cape Town Etc, the reopening remains dependent on the completion of outstanding roadworks.

📊 FIVE YEARS. A LOT OF WORK. AND THE NUMBERS TELL A STORY!

Being your Ward 54 Councilor is a part-time job… although I’m still trying to work out which part of the day I'm supposed to have off! 😅 It's certainly not a 9-to-5 job - more like 7-to-10, seven days a week! But what a privilege it has been.

These figures give just a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes, from thousands of emails and service requests to site visits, meetings and endless WhatsApps (and apologies if I didn't manage to get to yours!). Not every challenge has an easy solution, and I certainly don't get everything right, but I believe every issue deserves attention, persistence and follow-through. 💙

The work of our Social Development teams continues day in and day out across Ward 54, engaging with people living on the streets and offering assistance and alternative accommodation. 🤝

While Law Enforcement plays an important role, enforcement alone does not solve homelessness - it often simply moves the problem from one road to another. Social Development is where we can make a lasting difference, helping people change their circumstances, access support services and find a sustainable path off the streets.

Please continue to log service requests through the City's website so that we can direct teams to areas needing attention. Every report helps guide interventions, and every person assisted off the streets is a step in the right direction. ❤️
