The "stoepkamer" is getting a fabulous new look - we decided on Wednesday, bought the paint on Thursday and this morning at 05:30 Gerhard decided we paint today. Luckily Vinny Martin was available to assist - well, more like take over and do everything 🩶🩶🩶

Smultronställe : a Swedish word that literally means "wild strawberry patch" and is used figuratively to describe a cherished, peaceful, or hidden favorite spot - something (place 💜) you will always find here!

People often tell us that they love our home…..it is arty, unconventional, but also very homely.
My response is usually that “love lives here” and it spills over onto the 120-year old walls, and the unmade bed on Sunday mornings.

The truth is that this house loves us back! I walked around the side of it this morning and found a different view of my bathroom window. It reminded me of when I used to walk the streets of Paarl as a young girl looking up at the windows of grand old houses and imagining the people living behind them . There was just so much romance in those windows when light was reflected on them or pouring out of them.

Now and here, looking at this window, it invites me in, into my own life. I am engaged and invested. I know who lives here, who is looking out at me, standing here with my bare feet and coffee breath. It is the biggest romance. It is real. It is lived-in.

This window is a mirror where I am delighted at what I see. A house, a life, a happiness that lies deep and seeps into the ground and drenches the roots that hold it strong.

This studio suite has changed so much over the years and many of our regular guests refer to it as "my room" 🤗. The latest addition is a very comfortable daybed which easily converts to king size with the addition of a trundle bed. "A home away from home" might sound clichéd, but it applies to this space one hundred percent 🩶
