Similan Group

Similan Group Similan is an awarded property development company.

Harold Spies founded Similan Properties in November 2010 because he wanted to contribute to the way that homes are designed, developed and sold in South Africa. With the aim of creating sustainable residential developments for the emerging middle-class market, Similan Properties has brought a fresh approach to the industry that evolves as they continue to innovate. Their beautiful, award-winning e

states create the opportunity for many South Africans to live in quality homes, not only challenging the accepted norms of affordable housing developments but also providing an effective business model that secures year-on-year growth. Their developments include homes for mid-level essential workers to well-established buyers and people scaling down. Similan Properties don’t simply develop the estates, but take a holistic view of the entire lifecycle of these properties, from acquiring land, developing and selling homes, to working closely with partners and sister companies Plotsticker and Staylonger that handle marketing and the management of these properties and their tenants. This unique, hands-on approach to development management allows Similan to maintain the quality of not only the design and construction but also the experience of each new resident, for every estate they’ve developed thus far, while also extracting value from the total property value chain. This residential property development and project management company has won awards for its work, including the Housing Project of the Year Award in 2014, and was the first developer in Africa to be awarded, Edge Certification and continues to redefine urban living through innovative design.

While we're all planning, strategising, building and planting, someone needs to make sure that every detail is triple checked before handover.

Meet Louise, our quality manager, who puts relentless checking at the top of her list!

The Scape Awards, Visionary Development of the Year, honours iconic individual projects that set new benchmarks. We are incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for Newinbosch and share this space with some ingenious developments.

Getting sustainability right is not just about checking a few boxes, our outcomes are strengthened and made possible by our partners such as CNDV Landscape Architects, who is shortlisted for Landscape and Urban Project of the year for Newinbosch.

Thanks to CNDV Landscape Architects for the images taken by Daniela Zondagh.

Hello Spring! Our team had fun in the sun, a perfect first of Spring celebration at Thirdspace in Newinbosch.

The new season is a reminder of growth, renewal, rebirth and all the incredible lessons we can learn from our miraculous natural world.

There’s no hard hat, no awkward icebreakers and absolutely no promise that “We’re All in This Together” won’t get stuck in your head.

Meet Kesia Olivier, our Staylonger agent and the person helping future Newinbosch residents find a home that actually works for them.

We went Off Plan with Kesia to talk admin she’d happily abolish, team spirit, sustainability and the very real business of making deals happen.

Cameras were rolling at Newinbosch today and the brief for this one is bigger than a single building.

This isn't just about showing off the estate, but about telling the story of how Newinbosch got here, working with GBCSA and Ecolution to build not just homes, but a precinct with a continious sustainable future.

Keep an eye out, the footage is coming soon.

If organised chaos were an Olympic sport, Samantha would take home the gold. Between overflowing paperwork, countless moving parts and more than a few cups of coffee, she's the behind-the-scenes powerhouse making sure every project stays on course from start to finish.

Meet Samantha!

Why we're planting trees at Newinbosch.

It's easy to treat landscaping as decoration, but trees do real work. Through shade and evapotranspiration, they cool the ground and air around them, sometimes by tens of degrees compared to open, unshaded space.

That means cooler courtyards, cooler pathways, and gardens you'll actually want to spend time in during the hottest parts of the day. It's a long-term investment in how the estate feels to live in. Shaded surfaces can run roughly 11 to 25°C cooler than unshaded surfaces in direct sun.

Small choices like this shape a place over years, leaving a green legacy for future generations.

Newinbosch is powered by no less than 17 000 square metres of solar panels, creating its own microgrid. 60% of the energy consumes by the precinct is made right here, for all residents.

The Newinbosch Renewable Energy System is a combination of energy sources, including solar power, municipal grid supply, battery energy and possibly even some generators in the future. This blend of energy will keep our neighbourhood running smoothly, all thanks to Newinbosch Energy, a collaboration between Broadreach and Lesedi.

Meet the man who thinks swimming from Robben Island sounds like a good idea. When he's not helping bring Similan developments to life, André is chasing endurance challenges, perfecting every detail, and dreaming of neighbourhoods with sheep instead of lawnmowers.

Three questions, no hard hat required. This is Andre Stofberg.

Creating a mixed-use precinct at Newinbosch presented the opportunity to seamlessly integrate offices, retail and a vibrant community space alongside contemporary apartments.

Merging working, living and recreational elements allows residents, visitors and tenants to naturally interact, collectively sharing in the neighbourhood.

From an architectural perspective, this approach also adds depth and character to the built form. At Third Space, it allowed for the creation of a striking double-volume space that opens onto a generous patio, bringing scale, light and energy to the streetscape while creating an inviting destination with a spectacular view.
