Did you know Bowden has been part of South Australia’s story since 1839?
The suburb was named by James Hurtle Fischer after his hometown in Northamptonshire, and over the years it became a hub of industry; home to gasworks, brickworks, glassworks and later the Clipsal factory, which played an important role in manufacturing electrical products.
Today, Bowden’s transformation into a modern urban neighbourhood still honours that rich past. Key historical buildings, from factories to cottages and chimneys, have been carefully reimagined and integrated into the precinct’s contemporary design.
What hasn’t changed is the spirit of the community. Bowden continues to be a place where people come together, contributing to the growth and vibrancy of Adelaide and South Australia.
