Police can now wand you for knives in any public place in Queensland.

Jack's Law used to cover a few nightlife areas. Now it covers every public place in the state.

In the Far North alone, police have scanned more than 15,000 people and charged 241 of them.

Carrying a knife in public without a reasonable excuse is a criminal offence.

Taking copper from a mine site or rail line just got a lot more serious in Queensland.

Parliament passed tougher metal theft laws this week.

Stealing or damaging metal where someone's life is put at risk, or during a natural disaster, can now mean up to 25 years jail.

Even trying to steal valuable metal is now its own offence, with up to 7 years.

Scrap dealers face stricter ID and record rules, so stolen metal is easier to trace.

Police ran 1,733 roadside drug tests over the school holidays. More than 370 drivers got caught.

That's about one in every five drivers tested, and police say the patrols aren't stopping now the holidays are over.

Police are treating e-scooters and e-bikes like any other vehicle. The numbers prove it.

In the first three months of Queensland's new e-mobility laws, police took 558 non-compliant e-bikes and e-scooters off the road.
Nearly 2,500 fines have gone out statewide, about 1,500 of them for no helmet.
133 of those fines were in Mackay Whitsunday.

Heading into the King's Birthday long weekend?

A lot of Australian road-safety posts talk about "double demerits for the holiday." That is not how Queensland works.

In Queensland, double demerit points apply all year for certain second or later offences within 12 months. They are not switched on only for public holidays. That covers groups such as speeding more than 20 km/h over the limit, illegal mobile phone use, seatbelt offences, and motorcycle helmet offences.

If you are close to a suspension, or you have already been hit with demerit points, the long weekend is a good time to get clear on where you stand before you drive.

Property orders made, but your ex still hasn't paid, signed the transfer or handed over what the orders say?

Since 21 September 2026, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has run a National Enforcement List for family law financial and property orders, including some child support debts. The Court says failures to comply will be taken seriously, and a person who has to be taken back to court may be ordered to pay the other side's legal costs.

The paperwork is strict. You need proof the orders were served, a recent affidavit setting out exactly what is owed, and the right type of application or request. A deficient application can be knocked back.
