Whale mother and newborn calf filmed floating just off shore on whale census day.

A female whale who had just given birth has been captured on camera just north of Moonee Beach.

Reports of a possible deceased whale floating near a Coffs Harbour beach have turned out to be a slow-moving mother whale with her newborn calf. The new calf was spotted on ORCCA whale census day, "adding one more additional whale to the tally".

Launch of deposit guarantee scheme for regional first-home buyers brought forward

The Federal Government has brought forward the start date of a major new support measure for first-home buyers living in regional areas.

The Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee was due to kick off on 1 January, but will now launch from 1 October.

Eligible first-home buyers in regional Australia will be able to purchase their own home with just a 5% deposit, with government assistance making up the rest [of the 20% deposit).

Skyrocketing demand and dwindling supply have seen property prices boom in regional parts of the country, in some cases at a higher rate than in capital cities.

The rental crunch, which has pushed desperate tenants to the brink, is especially pronounced in the regions.

Australians living in regional areas have faced some of the largest drops in housing affordability, making it increasingly hard for locals to save a sufficient deposit.

From 1 October, the Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee will be open to Australian citizens who purchase their first home outside a capital city, and who can demonstrate they’ve lived in that region for at least 12 months.

Singles earning up to $125,000 and couples earning up to $200,000 for couples are eligible to apply. A range of properties can be bought, including existing dwellings, off-the-plan units or townhouses, a house-and-land package, and land with a separate contract to build a house

Whos ready for the biggest day of the year on the Coffs Harbour Racing calendar?

The Moonee Beach Hotel Gold Cup 2022, Coffs Coasts’ most prestigious race event of the year!

Now in its 57th year, the Moonee Beach Hotel Gold Cup has grown to be an iconic part of the Mid North Coast events calendar, with trainers and jockeys travelling from far and wide to compete for the prestigious Gold Cup. And with more to see, more to do, and more fun to be had on this designated public holiday on the Coffs Coast, it’s no wonder racegoers flock from miles around, with some 6,000+ crowd each year.

With an 8 Race TAB program, large on-track screen, centrally located bars and delicious food options provided by overly talented "Spare Chef", the day will certainly not disappoint.

The fashions are certainly not to be missed, with the large crowds dressing to impress. The Fashions on the Field is a hotly contested event with multiple entry categories and thousands of dollars in prizes to share in, they are always worth a look.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the 2022 Coffs Harbour Gold Cup for yourself on Thursday, 4th August 2022.

So either get to the track or to The Moonee Beach Hotel for what promises to be a great day out. And while your there dont forget to checkout how Moonee Beach has grown and the great new stages at Moonee beach Estate.

Coffs Harbour bypass project update.

Moving water mains to get ready for major construction
Moving a total of approximately 16.5 kilometres of water mains across the bypass is important early work. It is currently being carried out in preparation for major construction. We’ve been working in partnership with Coffs Harbour City Council to relocate the initial water mains located on the corner of Coramba and Spagnolos Road, North Boambee Road and Englands Road interchange. The two water mains on Coramba Road are the biggest jobs of the three locations and Council has been doing a great job. Council have already completed the relocation of one of two water mains on Coramba Road with the other due to be finished early December (weather permitting).
In August we started the water main relocation work at North Boambee Road and one of the first water mains at the England’s Road interchange area. It is expected this work will take a few months to complete.

Engaging local businesses

The Coffs Harbour bypass Local Industry Participation Plan is proving effective with almost 4570 local and regional businesses providing their interest in working on the project. About 40 local businesses have already been engaged on the project.
Local contractor KBS Mackay has started clearing work on North Boambee Road to create access locations along the bypass alignment.
