Colour drenching, but make it coastal. These were the instructions for this teenager’s bedroom: a minimal, coastal vibe. Nothing too busy, just a calm, beautiful space she could make their own.

So we used colour drenching, a design technique where the walls, skirting boards, doors and trims are painted in the same colour. Rather than breaking up the room with contrasting whites, it creates one seamless look that makes the space feel softer and more cohesive.

We kept the palette light and added texture to bring in that relaxed coastal feel without making the room look too beachy. Same room, completely different feel.

Summer is coming and the questions about our HAAUS.7 pool and alfresco are rolling in!

Space was tight in our alfresco, so we opted for a round dining table. It gives us plenty of seating without making the area feel overcrowded.

Our biggest tip when choosing outdoor furniture? Don’t just measure what fits. Think about how you’ll actually move around the space, how far chairs need to pull out and how you’ll use it when entertaining.

We look at SO many couches. It’s actually ridiculous! And yet this is the only one we’ve ever bought twice 😂

We bought it from Castlery Australia for HAAUS.4, absolutely loved it and then when it came to HAAUS.7, yep we chose the same one. You’d think we’d want to choose something different, but honestly, why? We weren’t going to talk ourselves out of a couch we loved just because we’d used it before. There were enough other decisions to make in this house without giving ourselves a couch dilemma for absolutely no reason 😂

So, to anyone thinking ‘haven’t we seen that couch before?’ Yes, yes you have. We’re obsessed. Still!

A coastal facade without changing the bones of the home.

One of our biggest goals with this renovation was to completely transform the exterior without spending money unnecessarily changing the existing structure.

We wanted a fresh, coastal feel but we also wanted to be smart about where we spent our budget.

Rather than changing the shape of the home, we focused on updating the finishes, simplifying the overall look and creating a more cohesive colour palette.

It’s amazing how much of a difference the right materials, colours and details can make without having to completely redesign a facade.

~ Our biggest tip: Before you start moving walls, changing rooflines or making expensive structural changes, look at what you can achieve with the home you already have.

Sometimes the biggest transformation comes from working with what’s there rather than starting again.
