BANK OF CANADA HOLDS AT 2.25%
No cut and no hike today. On July 15, 2026, the Bank of Canada kept its policy rate at 2.25%, with the Bank Rate at 2.50% and the deposit rate at 2.20%.
The Bank says Canada’s economy is beginning to improve and housing activity appears to be stabilizing. However, uncertainty remains elevated due to U.S. trade policy, volatile oil prices and the conflict in the Middle East. Inflation reached 3.2% in May, largely because of higher gasoline prices, but is projected to gradually return toward 2%.
For real estate, today’s decision brings no fresh borrowing-cost relief, but also no new increase. Buyers, sellers and variable-rate borrowers remain in a wait-and-see environment as the Bank balances a recovering economy against ongoing inflation risks.
The next scheduled rate announcement is September 2, 2026.
