On behalf of the Warrener family I want to thank Chatham-Kent for selecting the Armoury as the winner of the 2026 Mayor’s Heritage Award for Adaptive Reuse.

Since my father’s purchase of the building in 2009 the Armoury has hosted over 100,000 guests and visitors and helped inject millions of dollars back into our local economy.

The Armoury is an ever-present reminder of the pride and dedication of our servicemen and their sacrifices and battle honours bestowed upon our community and regiment.

Our family believes that buildings like this must be brought to their highest use in order to survive beyond any one owner. Any policy or government action or inaction that impedes or reduces the ability of a historic property to thrive is a direct threat to its chances of surviving the wrecking ball.

Today Historic properties face ever increasing property taxes and insurance, with stagnant rental revenues. Fortunately CK has been supportive with their Historic property tax program, which helps reduce the strain on historic property stewards.
