5 things I do as a Realtor that may seem unhinged to the average person.
1. Get emotionally attached to houses I do not own.
I’ve already decided where the furniture should go, what colour the kitchen needs to be and how cute it would look at Christmas. Again, not my house.
2. Drive down random gravel roads just to see where they go.
Is there a property for sale down there? Maybe. Am I turning around? Absolutely not.
3. Know way too much about strangers’ houses.
When they bought it. What they paid. What it looked like in 2017. When their garage was built. Completely normal.
4. Get genuinely excited about new weeping tile, a updated septic system or a brand new boiler.
Forget diamonds. Tell me the shingles were done last year.
5. Casually walk through creepy basements, crawlspaces and vacant houses alone, or better yet, with a stranger.
Lights don’t work? Strange noise downstairs? Apparently I’m still going in.
Real estate is basically equal parts salesperson, detective, photographer, therapist, negotiator, tour guide and professional snoop.
And somehow… I love it. 🧡
