Buildings like the Old Firehall and the upcoming Elk Valley Childcare Centre don't rise without the people constructing them. Thank you to our construction partners at North Mountain Construction and New Commons Development for their work on the Old Firehall and Pine Ave locations.

Meet the Team: Katey Taylor, Executive Director 🏑

Katey cares about affordable housing and about helping the Elk Valley grow in a way that benefits everyone. She believes strong communities start with safe, affordable homes.

Off the clock, she's with her family and their dog, at the lake in summer, and out on the trails and slopes in winter. 🌲

Today is National Seniors Day, and we're taking a moment to celebrate the seniors in our community and the housing that supports them.

Veneto Seniors Housing provides a safe, comfortable, and connected place for older adults in the Elk Valley to call home. Thank you to the residents and staff who make it such a warm community.

Today we pause to reflect on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. EVFS operates within Qukin Κ”amakΚ”is, the unceded traditional territory of the YaqΜ“it Κ”aΒ·knuqⱑi'it people and the Ktunaxa Nation. We honour the children who never returned home, the survivors of the residential school system, and the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation in our community.

For years, EVFS has provided affordable and supportive housing across the Elk Valley, and every building is home to neighbours who've found a stable place to live.

Here's a look at the housing EVFS offers across Fernie and Sparwood:

🏠 Veneto Place, Fernie: affordable rental homes for low- to moderate-income households, plus subsidized units for seniors (55+) and people with disabilities
🏠 Sasko Manor, Sparwood: subsidized housing for seniors and people with disabilities who live independently
🏠 Timber's Landing, Sparwood: affordable 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes for families, single parents and individuals
🏠 Timber's Landing Phase 2, Sparwood: 32 new mixed rental homes on Pine Ave
🏠 Chrysalis House: second-stage housing with support services for women and children leaving violence, serving the Elk Valley since 1998
πŸ—οΈ The Old Firehall, Fernie: 44 affordable homes now under construction downtown
πŸ—οΈ Childcare & Affordable Housing Project: EVFS will manage the affordable housing units, and the Elk Valley Childcare Society will run a daycare serving families across the Elk Valley and South Country

None of EVFS's work happens alone. We're grateful for the ongoing partnership of BC Housing, CMHC, the District of Sparwood, the City of Fernie, EVR and Columbia Basin Trust in making affordable housing possible across the Elk Valley. Thank you for investing in our community.
