So cool!

🍿 I caught the Cape Breton movie Little Lorraine The Film in theatres last night, and it was so good!

I went in knowing nothing about it other than it was set in Cape Breton — purely going in to support the arts in The Maritimes (as one should!) I didn't even know what genre it was; I was thinking maybe a comedy. Well, it turns out that it is, in fact, definitely not a comedy!

Based on a true story, it tells the tale of three out-of-work Cape Breton miners who take a job on a lobster boat (as one does). Next thing they know, they find themselves tangled up in a massive drug smuggling operation...

The setting (Louisbourg) is visually striking, the wardrobe is spot-on for the 80s, and the script, acting, and music all fit together remarkably well. As a big fan of The Clash, my favourite part was the devastatingly sad cover of "Straight to Hell" that plays over the climax, but you also get to see Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) as a priest getting headbutted in a brawl at a church dance, which is not something many films can say!

Anyway, what I’m saying is that Little Lorraine is in theatres in much of The Maritimes right now, and you should go see it! Not just to support the arts in The Maritimes (but yeah, we should) but because it's a bona fide great film!
