Ontario Cottage Market Is Correcting and Buyers Are Taking Notice

The Ontario cottage market correction is well underway, marking a clear shift away from the pandemic‑era surge toward more balanced and sustainable conditions. The Bank of Canada has held its target for the overnight rate at 2.25% again, as ongoing Middle East conflict drives energy prices higher and US trade policy uncertainty continues to weigh on the global and Canadian economies. With GDP edging down in the first quarter and inflation rising to 2.8%, Governing Council is maintaining its current stance while remaining ready to respond as the outlook evolves.

The Bank remains committed to maintaining Canadians’ confidence in price stability through this period of global upheaval. While core inflation has eased to around 2%, total inflation is expected to hover near 3% in the near term before gradually declining, with Governing Council keeping a close watch on whether elevated energy prices begin to feed through more broadly into consumer prices.
