Something has been bothering me about the way our industry communicates particularly as we are experiencing the slowest market in well over 20 years.
I see large real estate companies talk about “our team of experts,” “our economists,” “our analysts,” and “our intelligence team.”
But… who are they?
What are their names? What are their backgrounds? What do they believe is happening in the market? Why shouldn’t the public get to know the actual people behind the information?
There’s nothing wrong with having a big corporate machine behind you. Resources, research, technology and infrastructure can all be tremendous advantages.
But real estate is still a human business.
We’re helping people make some of the biggest financial and emotional decisions of their lives. And in a world where people already feel increasingly disconnected from corporations and institutions, I’m not sure becoming even more faceless is the answer.
Put some humanity behind the information.
Introduce the economist.
Introduce the demographer.
Introduce the analysts.
Let people hear them speak.
Let people understand who is actually behind the conclusions being presented.
Maybe I’m old-fashioned.
I’m soon to be 68, and I’ve spent more than 40 years in sales and service. One thing I’ve learned is that people don’t build relationships with “the team.”
They build relationships with people.
And perhaps our industry could use a little more of that right now.
Just one Realtor’s opinion.
