Would you trade a bigger wedding for a bigger down payment? 💍🏡

More than half of married Canadians (55%) say they would have forgone or significantly scaled back their wedding to put more money toward buying a home, according to the Royal LePage 2026 Rings vs. Real Estate Survey.

As affordability challenges persist, Canadians continue to prioritize long-term financial goals alongside life's biggest milestones.

There’s something special about recipes that have been passed down through generations. ❤️

These Newfoundland Molasses Raisin Tea Buns remind me of quiet afternoons in Grandma’s kitchen, where a fresh batch of buns cooling on the counter meant it was time to put the kettle on. The scent of warm cinnamon, sweet molasses, and freshly baked bread would fill the house, making everyone feel instantly at home.

Soft, tender, and dotted with juicy raisins, these old-fashioned tea buns are simple comfort food at its finest. Served warm with a generous spread of butter and a hot cup of tea, they’re the kind of treat that turns an ordinary day into a cherished memory.

✨ Newfoundland Molasses Raisin Tea Buns

Ingredients:
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• ½ cup sugar
• 1 tbsp baking powder
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ½ cup cold butter
• 1 cup raisins
• ¼ cup molasses
• 1 large egg
• 1 cup milk

Optional:
• Extra butter for serving

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Stir in the raisins.
5. In a separate bowl, whisk together molasses, egg, and milk until smooth.
6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until a soft dough forms.
7. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until it comes together.
8. Pat dough to about 1-inch thickness.
9. Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter or drinking glass.
10. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
11. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until beautifully golden brown.
12. Serve warm with plenty of butter.

A few baking tips:
✨ Soak the raisins in warm water for extra softness.
✨ Don't overwork the dough—gentle handling keeps the buns tender.
✨ A pinch of nutmeg adds an extra touch of warmth.

Whether enjoyed at breakfast, with afternoon tea, or shared around the kitchen table with family, these tea buns are a little taste of Newfoundland hospitality and old-fashioned home baking. ☕🧈
