Toronto was hit with a historic winter storm, recording its highest single-day snowfall since records began in 1937! 🌨️

Toronto Pearson measured 46 cm of snow in one day, setting a new record as the storm disrupted flights, transit, and travel across the city. 🛬🏙️

❄️Monday morning snow clearing update - Jan. 26 ❄️

A huge thank you to our staff who have been working around the clock to clear the roads.

Our operations team shared that Whitby got about 13 cm of snow in yesterday's storm -- way less than the record-setting 46 cm recorded at Pearson Airport.

🔹As of 4:30 a.m., all roads have been plowed and treated at least once. However, snow-packed conditions will remain throughout the week as temperatures are too low for salt to be fully effective. If you're out on the roads, slow down and keep a safe following distance.

🔹Town of Whitby facilities are open, and programming is running on schedule

🔹Sidewalk clearing started at 3 a.m., and crews are expected to make at least one pass of all Town-maintained sidewalks and trails by the end of the day. The Town's windrow clearing program for seniors and residents with disabilities will start within 36 hours of the end of the snow event.

🔹Significant snow drifting is a challenge. Sidewalks and roads may need multiple passes over the next couple of days.

Staff and contractors are currently plowing and treating roads. All roads will be treated at least once by tomorrow morning.

✔ Vehicles parked on roads are being reported to our Enforcement team.
✔ On-street parking is not permitted during snow events.
✔ All parking permits are cancelled for the duration of the winter event.
