Last week, we talked about creating the perfect cottage feel indoors. This week, we're stepping outside... because let's be honest, that's where cottage life really happens. ☀️🌲

Here are a few ideas to create an outdoor space you'll never want to leave:

🪑 Muskoka chairs are a must. Whether they're gathered around a fire pit, lined up on the dock, or overlooking the lake, nothing says "Ontario cottage" quite like a set of classic Muskoka chairs. Bonus points if they're in a fun pop of colour!
🔥 Create a cozy fire pit area. Add a few side tables, string lights, and a stack of firewood to create the perfect place for roasting marshmallows, sharing stories, and making memories.
🌿 Work with nature. Instead of perfectly manicured gardens, embrace native plants, wildflowers, ferns, ornamental grasses, and natural stone pathways that blend beautifully with the surrounding landscape.
🛶 Celebrate life on the water. Store paddles in a decorative rack, display a canoe nearby, or create a comfortable dockside seating area where you can enjoy your morning coffee with a waterfront view.
💡 Add warm lighting. String lights, lanterns, solar pathway lights, and candles help create a cozy atmosphere after the sun goes down without competing with the stars.

This room definitely has a lot going on, but underneath it all is a space with plenty of potential.

The patterned carpet, traditional furniture, wall décor, and abundance of greenery make it feel like a true time capsule. That said, it's been beautifully cared for.

The good news? You don't need to go full-on nautical themed (unless you want to! 😉). Creating that cozy cottage feel is more about the atmosphere than filling every room with anchors, ropes, and lighthouses.

Here are a few timeless ways to bring the cottage vibe to life:

🍃 Stick to natural materials like pine, cedar, stone, and rattan to bring the outdoors in.
🛋️ Choose cozy, comfortable furniture over anything too formal. Oversized sofas, plaid throws, and well-loved leather chairs are always a good fit.
🌊 Bring the lake indoors with shades of navy, forest green, warm neutrals, and crisp white. These colours feel fresh without being overly themed.
