Canada Needs Twice the Projected Homes
The numbers from our national housing agency are striking: to bring affordability back to pre-pandemic levels, Canada needs 417,000 to 469,000 new homes every year through 2036. That’s nearly twice the amount currently projected—meaning we’re facing a significant gap of 187,000 to 238,000 homes annually over the next decade. Construction isn’t keeping up with demand, and with most new builds already tied up in ongoing projects, the outlook for buyers and renters is challenging. As someone who’s passionate about our communities here in St. Thomas & Elgin County, I see firsthand the impact of this shortage on families and businesses alike. Addressing this on a national scale will require bold action, but I remain committed to supporting clients—whether residential or commercial—navigate these realities with informed guidance and support.
