The Bank of Canada held its key policy rate at 2.25% today, marking the seventh consecutive hold.

While the Canadian economy showed strength in the second quarter, the Bank of Canada is taking a wait and see approach to monitor how trade issues and potential inflation changes may affect the economy going forward. The situation continues to evolve with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and new US tariffs.

The next scheduled announcement for the overnight rate target is October 28th, 2026.
