Could your condo locker actually be restricted under the Fire Code?

A recent Ontario case raised concerns about open wire-cage lockers located directly inside underground parking garages. Ongoing communication between the condo board and several other city departments are disputing its set up and use case which only should allow bicycles but not regular household items.

That does not mean every underground condo locker is problematic.

The important distinction is whether the locker is located inside a properly designed storage room or simply placed beside or behind a parking space within the garage itself.

For condo buyers, the takeaway is simple: don’t just confirm that a unit comes with a locker. Ask where it is located, how it is constructed, and whether there have been any fire-code notices affecting its use.

Small detail. Potentially big difference after closing.
