We recently completed the sale of our moving company, marking the end of an incredible era for our family and the beginning of a new one for Star Transfer Ltd under the ownership of Cody and Ryan St. Thomas.

Since 1997, Star Transfer Ltd has been part of nearly every chapter of our lives. Our daughters and I joined Rick on some of his moves across B.C. and Alberta, turning work trips into special family memories. And our oldest daughter, Kristen, even had a once-in-a-lifetime solo trip with her dad on a long-haul move to Disneyland and San Francisco — a story her dad loves to tell.

This business has carried us through so many of life’s biggest milestones — our own marriage in 1998, our daughters growing up, their graduations, careers, and marriage, our youngest heading off to university, becoming grandparents, the loss of our parents, and now the moment where we step into retirement.

We are so grateful for the years we had with Star Transfer Ltd. Cody and Ryan have been a huge part of the company’s success in recent years, and we’re proud to pass the torch to them — along with Erika Janni, who will be part of this new chapter as well.

TRAVEL ALERT - PAULSON SUMMIT TO KOOTENAY PASS

Highway alerts have been put in place for many major arterials heading into the Interior and Okanagan due to the changing weather conditions. Severe winds and dry lightning are expected.

Widespread Gusty Winds and Risk of Thunderstorms

When: Today into Friday.

Where: Interior B.C.

Hazards:
Strong, gusty winds shifting from southwest to northwest. Risk of dry lightning. Continued heat (southern interior).

Impacts;
Worsening wildfire conditions, possible new fire starts, risk of breaking tree branches, challenging boating conditions.

Discussion:
Widespread southwesterly winds of 30 km/h gusting 50 will develop this morning and switch to northwesterly 20 km/h gusting 50 near midday (Central Interior) or overnight and into Friday (southern interior) as a dry cold front passes.

Instability along the cold front may lead to the development of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, The main hazard is localized severe winds with speeds up to or above 70 km/h and dry lightning (lightning that comes with little or no rain).

Drought-stricken trees will be more susceptible to winds.
