A house doesn’t feel like home because of perfection- it’s the small, layered details that make the home feel warm, familiar and like the place where everyone wants to spend their time.
We asked our Interior Designer, Jen Lapsiuk, for the easiest way to make a house feel like a home the moment you move in🛋
💡TIP 1. Start With Lighting: Swap bright white bulbs for warmer tones (aim for 3000K). Create depth by adding multiple light sources like table lamps, floor lamps, or dimmer switches.
💡TIP 2. Anchor With Textiles: Use area rugs to absorb sound and ground the room. Layer in throw blankets and pillows for texture, and hang curtains higher and wider than your windows to soften the space.
💡TIP 3. Bring in Life: Nothing transforms a room faster than greenery. Mix a large statement plant with smaller ones, and keep fresh flowers on the table to keep the energy vibrant.
💡TIP 4. Make it Personal: Don’t wait to display what matters. Frame family photos and showcase meaningful objects or books that tell your unique story.
💡TIP 5. Style Your Everyday Surfaces: Avoid leaving large surfaces empty. Curate coffee tables with a tray, books, and a candle, or use vases and photos to make entryways and shelves feel lived-in, rather than just moved-in.
Don’t wait for the perfect home. Lots of times people live in limbo when first moving in. Unpack the everyday, visible items first and then you can make your way to storage closets.
