Proposed National Urban Park Takes Major Step Forward

The proposed National Urban Park in the Windsor area moved closer to becoming a reality this week as federal, provincial, municipal and Indigenous partners announced another significant milestone. The project now includes an additional 19 hectares of the former Windsor Raceway lands, helping to protect more of the nationally significant Ojibway Prairie Complex.

The future park will bring together lands managed by the City of Windsor, Parks Canada, Ontario Parks, the Essex Region Conservation Authority, and other partners into a connected network dedicated to conservation, recreation, and education. It is designed to preserve one of Canada's most biodiverse ecosystems while improving access to nature for residents and visitors alike.

Next steps include developing an interim operational plan, continuing public and First Nation engagement, and finalizing agreements between project partners. Once established, the Windsor-area National Urban Park is expected to become Canada's second national urban park, creating lasting environmental, tourism, and recreational benefits for the region.

Construction Begins on New Windsor-Essex Hospital

Construction has officially begun on the new Fancsy Family Hospital, marking a major milestone for health care in Windsor-Essex. The Province of Ontario is investing more than $202 million in the project, which will become a state-of-the-art, two-million-square-foot hospital designed to meet the region's growing healthcare needs.

Once completed, the new hospital will feature nearly 600 beds—adding more than 100 new beds—along with a 24/7 emergency department, expanded cancer, trauma, surgical, critical care, maternal and newborn services, as well as specialized cardiology and neurology care. The facility will also include more private patient rooms to improve comfort, privacy, and infection prevention.

Construction will take place in three phases, beginning with site infrastructure, parking, and an education centre before moving on to the main diagnostic, treatment, and inpatient facilities. The project is expected to create jobs during construction while delivering modern, connected healthcare services for Windsor-Essex residents for generations to come.

Windsor-Essex Real Estate Market Update – June 2026

The Windsor-Essex housing market continues to move toward a more balanced environment, creating opportunities for both buyers and sellers.

In May, 424 residential properties sold, representing an 18% decrease compared to the same time last year. While sales activity has slowed, home values have remained resilient, with the average sale price increasing to $565,000, up 1.6% year-over-year. At the same time, inventory has grown to 4.6 months of supply, giving buyers more choice and greater negotiating power than we've seen in recent years.

For sellers, the market still offers excellent opportunities—but pricing has never been more important. Well-priced, well-presented homes continue to attract strong interest and are selling in a median of just 16 days. Overpricing, however, is leading to longer selling times as buyers have more options available.

For buyers, today's market provides a welcome change from the intense competition of previous years. More inventory means more time to evaluate properties, negotiate terms, and make informed purchasing decisions without the pressure of bidding wars becoming the norm.

Looking at the year as a whole, the market has experienced a modest adjustment rather than a dramatic correction. Through the first five months of 2026, home sales are down approximately 7% compared to last year, while average prices have declined only about 2.3%. LaSalle Seeks Provincial Funding to Boost Housing Growth

Town officials estimate these projects could help pave the way for up to 5,000 new housing units while improving roads, stormwater, and wastewater infrastructure.
