Terry: “Anything’s possible if you try”

If you know me, then you know Terry Fox continues to be an inspiration to me.

Yes, he was born in Winnipeg—that’s pretty cool. Yes, he set out to raise money for cancer research, and what he accomplished changed countless lives.

But what always stops me in my tracks is this: every single morning for 143 consecutive days, he got up and ran a marathon.

In the pouring rain. Through pain. No one was making him do it. He wasn’t getting paid. There were no likes, no followers, and barely any cameras documenting every kilometre the way there would be today.

Just purpose. Determination. And a commitment to something bigger than himself.

Simply amazing. ❤️

A STORY ABOUT HOME

Some clients become so much more than clients. L and R were two of those people and last week my heart broke alongside L's.

Their story began by pure chance a few years ago. L was sitting alone on a park bench after losing his best friend to cancer when R walked by, looked at him and said, "It looks like you could use a friend."

That one simple sentence changed both of their lives.

I had been helping L through a big life transition, selling his cottage and finding him a condo in the city. Not long after, he'd call me to tell me about this incredible man he'd met.

Soon after, R asked me to sell his childhood home. He told me he'd lived there his whole life, but somehow it had never truly felt like home. He moved in with L, and they got married. After a while, R admitted it still didn't quite feel like home either. So together, they decided to find a place that would truly belong to them both.

They found the perfect condo. After their offer was accepted, we went back to take measurements. I'll never forget R wrapping me in the biggest hug and saying, "Thank you, Alix. I'm finally home with the guy of my dreams."

That's a moment I'll carry with me forever.

They poured their hearts into renovating their condo, and R would send me videos of himself proudly playing handyman. Their happiness was honestly so contagious.

Then, in an instant, everything changed.
While L was away working in Toronto a couples of weeks ago, they spoke on the phone. R told him how wonderful life was and how excited he was to see him the following week. That night, R went to bed and never woke up.

This is the first time I've lost someone I've had the privilege of working with and getting to know. Real estate has always been about people for me, and sometimes those people leave a permanent mark on your heart.

True love is rare. R gave L joy, laughter, and a new beginning. L gave R something he'd been searching for his whole life—a place that finally felt like home.

We all deserve a love that feels like home.

My heart is with L, and I'm forever grateful I got to witness a small part of their beautiful story. ❤️

FATHER’S 🤍 DAY

Father’s Day can bring up a lot of emotions.

For those lucky enough to still have their dad, give them an extra hug, make the call, send the text, and cherish the time.

For those of us missing our dads today, I’m sending a hug your way. Some days are harder than others, but the love, lessons, and memories never leave us.
