Summer Student – Groundskeeping

Village Canadien Co‑operative Ltd. (VCCL) is seeking Summer Students to support the upkeep and appearance of our co‑operative housing community through groundskeeping and outdoor maintenance.

This position is ideal for students looking for seasonal employment in a community‑based, team‑oriented environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain lawns and landscaped areas, including mowing and trimming, w**d garden beds and assist with general landscaping tasks perform litter pickup and outdoor clean‑up of common areas
Support maintenance staff with assigned outdoor duties

Qualifications:
Must be a student returning to school in the fall.
Ability to perform physical work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Previous groundskeeping or landscaping experience is considered an asset but is not required

Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Employment Term:

Start Date: July 2, 2026
End Date: August 31, 2026

Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hour

Re: Power Outage

Do to circumstances out of our control a vehicle hit a hydro pole on St Mary’s which caused the power outage at 700, 730 River road and. 1680 st Mary’s. Estimated time is 7 pm.

You can check at hydro.mb.ca/outages for current information. Updated every 5 mins or you can contract hydro directly.

If you’re concerned about water freezing you can turn a tap on with a flow the size of a small straw.

You can also light a few candles to help keep warm.

Unfortunately Village Canadien Coop has no control over the power outage or when the power will be restored

Today at approx 4:40 pm someone decided it was a good idea to set a recycling bin on fire in the 700 bay.

Around 3:30pm a member observed a couple youth in the park with a stick on fire. When spoken to the youths stated they did not light the stick on fire, they said they put it out and said a 13 year old is who lite the stick on fire. I only believed half of the story but gave the benefit of doubt to them. Advised them on the danger and what would happen if caught lighting fires. Then the recycling bin was set on fire, I believe these are related. Please be on the look out for any suspicious activity and report it to the proper authorities. We as a community need to be vigilant and please talk to your family’s about the dangers of lighting fires and the damage or loss of life that can happen.

Please keep clear of the fallen tree in the Park at River Road. The tree may not be safe to be around. Please advise your children not to play on the tree until it is removed on Monday morning. Someone will be there Sunday to assess and block off the area. Thank you
