MSP STAFF SERIES 💙 | Meet Kathryn
Hi, my name is Kathryn Boardman, and I’m the Facilities Coordinator at Main Street Project. I’ve been part of the MSP family for a year and a half now.

I support the coordination of our maintenance and Green teams, help with building-related needs, and make sure departments have the supplies and equipment they need for their day-to-day operations. My day to day typically looks like receiving maintenance requests for any our locations- Housing, Emergency shelter, food bank and Withdrawal management services. These requests are not only by staff but community as well when they notice something that can be improved or needs a bit of a fix! I coordinated with the maintenance team to plan and action accordingly. A huge part of my day is planning new additions or fixes- connecting with community and meeting people where they’re at in terms of working in their safe spaces.

▶️How would you explain your role to someone who has never heard about MSP before?

Part of my role is to ensure the community and staff have safe environments in our facilities, Providing support and communication all around to both participants/tenants and staff. The facilities team part takes in renovations for housing, inspection walk throughs, Furniture donation deliveries/ set up, sanitary supplies delivery, meeting maintenance requests across 7 locations and having knowledge in a multitude of trades , vehicle inspections/ repairs and building move ins. As well as showing up for site emergencies that effect community and staff if they arise interior and exterior.

▶️What is something small that happens in your work that has a big impact on someone’s day?

I think providing basic necessities that are a human right but not always easily available to community. That could include building more beds so someone can lay down after a long night, fixing a water fountain for accessible hydration, Adjusting the water temp in showers so someone can cool off and feel better and handing out water during supply deliveries for folks far from resources . seeing a smile in result of installing a shower curtain or dropping off a fan during hot summer days is what makes the work I do worth it.
This is the work Bike for MSP fundraising helps support. When you take part, you’re helping support the people, programs and services that make these everyday moments possible.

🚴 It’s not too late to join Bike for MSP! The fundraiser runs until September 13, with exciting prizes and challenges. Come be part of our community, fundraise at your own pace and help make an impact together.
