PLASTIC FANTASTIC?
I don’t think so...our recent trip to Florence was a beautiful, sensory experience. I noticed that the hotel, cafes and restaurants we visited used natural materials for their furnishings,
plants, tableware and lighting.

There was a distinct lack of plastic and instead, natural materials that are not just environmentally friendly and sustainable but also are kinder to your senses and make you feel connected to nature.
When I observed the green materials in my surroundings; including glass, wood, brass, leather, REAL plants and flowers, cotton and steel..the effect? I felt happier, more calm, more focused and relaxed.

Next time you go out for a coffee or a meal or stay in a hotel, notice what the materials, furnishings and decor around you are made from..how does it make you FEEL? I would love to hear your thoughts…

And if you would like help transforming your home to create one where you feel more calm, connected and happy (it especially benefits neurodiverse children), DM me:-)

It’s not always about big design statements.

In my interior projects, especially those designed to support wellbeing, I always prioritise natural materials...but not just for the sake of it. It’s about tuning into the feeling a space gives you. The subtle sensory cues that make people feel safe, inspired, and deeply at home.

Here are a few small but powerful details from a recent co-living space I created for maritime professionals who spend much of their working lives at sea:

🌊 The blues in the cotton cushions echo the shifting hues of the ocean...calm, deep, familiar.
🪢 A sculptural rope lamp subtly nods to life on deck, bringing a tactile link to their world at sea.
☀️ A natural woven lampshade filters the light gently...like the dappled sunshine under a taverna canopy.
🛁 In the spa-style bathroom, the nine soft hues in the wall tiles reflect the changing sea as the sun begins to set.
⚓ And in the kitchen, blue and white geometric tiles give a crisp, nautical energy-fresh, clean, and invigorating.

None of these choices scream for attention. But they speak to the senses. They connect people to nature, memory, and ease. And when a home feels right, it supports wellbeing in ways we don’t always consciously realise.

Design isn’t just about how a space looks. It’s how it supports the life lived in it.

If you're curious about how sensory-focused design could work in your space, or just want to explore ideas, feel free to drop me a message—I’d love to hear what inspires you!

✨ Kitchen Glow-Up Alert! ✨

Here’s a little peek at the before and after of a nautical-style kitchen transformation I designed for the second co-living property in Southampton...this one created especially with maritime professionals in mind ⚓️

It’s always so satisfying to see a vision come to life—and even more exciting when it’s part of a bigger branded design strategy. Once the look, feel and materials are established in the first property, it creates a beautiful ripple effect for future houses in the portfolio.

Consistency, recognisability, and a strong sense of identity...tick, tick, tick!

This one was such a success, tenants moved in before the work was even finished… so we had to wait a little while to get the final shots 📸 but worth the wait, don’t you think?

Let me know what you think of the transformation and if you’d like help creating a strong, sensory-aligned identity for your investment properties, I’d love to chat.

I'm old school...I still like to hand sketch my visuals when I'm designing interiors for my clients...but I DO love adding photographic accessories to my sketches as it does several things..

1. Adds an element of realism to the scheme..
2. I can easily remove or replace items from the visual
3. It brings a hand drawn sketch to life
4. Makes me feel like I still can use my creative skills I learnt instead of having all digital technology replace these

I will share the finished visual of this interior transformation and more soon..what's YOUR opinion on hand sketches instead of computer generated ones?

From Cramped to Considered: A Bathroom Reimagined 🛁

This recent design started with a floor plan and a challenge:
A tired layout with an awkward footprint that didn’t suit modern living.

I reworked the layout by opening up an unused store room to create a much more practical, spacious bathroom — all visualised in Canva with layered photographic elements over my original hand sketch.

Here’s what changed: ✔️ A floating vanity and overhead mirror for light and storage
✔️ A sleek shower cubicle and wall panels for easier maintenance
✔️ Wall-hung WC with clean lines and space-saving depth
✔️ Towel rails, open shelving and geometric flooring for personality
✔️ Clever lighting and storage that elevate function and calm

This was part of a wider property redesign for a buy-to-let — and it’s proof that you don’t need big space or big spend to get big results.

Smart design starts on paper.

If you have an upcoming project you would like design inspo and help with..send me a DM-I's love to chat!
