Think renting in the UK is among the worst in the world? The data might surprise you. 👀

A new global index comparing 39 Western countries puts the UK 30th out of 39 on its ‘Forever Renter’ scale, placing it among the countries with the lowest levels of long-term rental pressure.

A few standout stats:

🏠 68.4% of UK households are homeowners
🔑 30.7% are renters
📉 Just 8.9% spend more than 40% of their income on housing
🏡 UK renters have an average of 2.9 rooms per person, the highest figure in the study
📊 House prices have risen just 4.7% faster than incomes since 2015

The UK rental market certainly has its challenges, but internationally, the picture is more nuanced than you might expect.

Sometimes the numbers tell a rather different story. 📈

The post-summer property bounce looks stronger than usual this year.

Buyer demand jumped 5% in the first week of September, compared with an average increase of just 0.4% over the same period in the previous five years.

Some regions saw an even bigger uplift:

📍 London: +9%
📍 South West: +8%
📍 West Midlands: +7%
📍 North East: +7%
📍 UK overall: +5%

With families back into their usual routines and autumn getting underway, buyers appear to be re-engaging with their moving plans.

August came and went in a blur and somehow we're already more than halfway through September, full steam ahead as always.

Despite the unusually good weather and the usual bad press around mortgages and the housing market, homes still sold really well. 15 homes sold STC last month, and every single one had its own story: nervous first viewings, back and forth negotiations, that phone call when an offer finally gets accepted 🙌

And the September bounce we were hoping for once the kids went back to school? It's happening, with even more activity coming through in Hanham, Kingswood, and St George 👀

Bristol (and beyond) keeps moving, and we're so grateful to be part of it. To every buyer, seller, and everyone who helped make these moves happen, thank you.

Another reason to love Bristol. ❤️

Did you know the world’s first modern bungee jumps took place right here in Bristol? On 1 April 1979, the Clifton Suspension Bridge became the starting point for a new kind of adventure, when members of Oxford University’s Dangerous Sports Club took the leap.

What started as a daring idea in Bristol soon became a worldwide phenomenon. Not a bad bit of history for our city!

More than 9 in 10 landlords haven’t received a formal pet request since the new Renters’ Rights rules came into force.

But demand is still there. 34% of tenants say a pet-friendly property is essential, while a further 24% say it’s important to them.

And here’s the interesting bit: research found that 76% of landlords reported no pet-related damage at the end of a tenancy.

With the new rules now in place, it’s less about saying no to pets and more about putting sensible safeguards in place that work for both landlords and tenants. 🐶🐱

Pets could be an opportunity for longer, more stable tenancies.
