*** Helpful Hints When Visiting Filey ***

* Buy the monthly local magazine, Filey Bay Today for what's going on in the town and villages, including Pub/Music Guide. Available on line and in shops.

* Street parking is challenging during high season, and the N Y Meter Maids really love their job! Car parks are: West Avenue, The Country Park, Station Avenue (behind Tesco), Between Station Approach and the bus station, small private car park; Church Ravine.

* Restaurants: it is best to book a table in bars and restaurants, to avoid disappointment.

*. Doggies: Filey is very dog friendly, however, dogs must be on a SHORT lead and kept on the floor in dog-friendly cafes and bars. Please clean up after your dog. Bagged dog waste can go in any bin. There are signs on the beach regarding dog-free areas.

* LITTER - You are never too far away from one of the over 100 council litter bins. Please use them. We rarely see a council litter picker in town. However, there is a local voluntary group, Keep Filey Tidy, whose members are out every day, doing just that. They are also useful for local knowledge - do ask.

* GULLS - Please do not feed them. They come to rely on food for humans, and swoop, dangerously, on people with chips, pastries, ice cream.

* GETTING TO AND FROM THE BEACH: There is no transport, at the moment, for getting you to and from the beach. Lazer Radio Taxis will take you anywhere in Filey for about a fiver a trip.

* Check TIDE TIMES, especially if going as far as Filey Brigg.

The North York Moors have 1,400 miles of footpaths. Most visitors walk the same five.

Here is what they are missing.

* A 16th-century pub sitting at 1,325 feet on Blakey Ridge, above valleys that have looked the same for centuries
* The ghost of an ironstone railway that once carried 500,000 tons of ore a year, now a silent moorland track
* A dale so quiet it has no through road and no pub, where you will not see another walker on a weekday.

Ten walks. All on the North York Moors. Most people have never heard of them.

“Lovely weather for ducks” certainly proved true today! 🦆🌧️

While we were busy doing a changeover at Blacksmiths Cottages, nr Filey, we had these two unexpected visitors waddling around the courtyard as if they owned the place. Safe to say they were far happier about the rain than we were!

We think they might be checking in for a short stay… what do you think? 😊

Feeling the love for our Little Smithy. It's a cosy bolthole and perfect for 1 or 2 guests.

It is a studio cottage with a small kitchenette area, dining table and chairs and ensuite dressing area and bathroom. There is also a gorgeous sun trap private patio.

10th - 11th June (2 nights)
23rd - 24th June (2 nights)
28th June - 1st July (3 nights)
