I’ve always loved cottage stays because they have that lovely feeling of home, and I think that’s exactly why you can imagine settling in for more than just a couple of nights.

The dog settles in, you can snuggle up just like you would on your own sofa, and there’s nothing demanding your attention.

Having stayed in plenty of places with my own pup, I always found it was cottages where they seemed most relaxed, which is essentially why we wanted to add them to our collection.

Maybe it’s because they remind them a little of home. Nothing feels too unfamiliar and their usual routine doesn’t have to change too much.

But step outside the cottage door and there’s a whole new world for them to explore (dog owners, you’ll know what I mean when I say there’s nothing like watching your pup live their best life on holiday).

Because after months of planning a wedding, I think you’re allowed to make the honeymoon the easy part.

No airport queues or packing your life into a suitcase, and most importantly, no sad goodbye to the dog before you leave.

Instead, a few days to come back down to earth after one of the biggest days of your lives and enjoy that lovely we actually just got married feeling together.

We absolutely love that so many newlyweds choose to spend those first few days of married life with us at The Barn, dogs and all 🐾

The older I get, the more I realise the best things we can give ourselves are the weekends we actually remember

A couple of days away with your favourite person and the dog. Long walks through the Forest of Dean, dinner by the fire, an outdoor bath before bed, and waking up somewhere that feels completely different to home.

A countryside cottage surrounded by woodland that I can take my dog to? Yeah, that’s my idea of paradise.

Time off from work is precious, so we’ve designed our cottages purely with your indulgence in mind. Private saunas, comfy interiors and outdoor showers.

Actually, it does, and it’s right here in the Forest of Dean.

The Bower is our cosy little cottage for two (and the pup, obviously). Inside, it’s a cottage dream, log burners, soft interiors, plenty of character, and that feeling of home.

Outside, there’s a patio where you can cook your own pizzas, relax in the sauna, or simply sit and take in the atmosphere in our little corner of the forest.

Not to forget, all The Roost Retreats guests get access to our new nature pool.

We have availability for later this year in The Bower, and I know there’s nowhere I’d rather spend a cosy autumnal evening.

We love summer here at The Roost, but there’s just something about the way autumn feels here 🍂

An outdoor bath with your coffee on frosty mornings, hearty meals in the evenings, nights spent out by the firepit keeping warm, and everything turning a gorgeous shade of orange.

I would say The Nook and The Nest are just made for autumn. They really do make the perfect cosy cabin getaways.

And if you’re brave enough, you can dip in our nature pool.

At our cabins you can live a little slower, absolutely guilt free.

I know the feeling of going away and feeling a little guilty if days aren’t packed with plans.

But at The Roost Retreats, we encourage our guests to put relaxing first. Lie in till 11, coffee in hand. Sink into the outdoor tub at 2pm for an hour. Finally finish that book you keep picking up.

There’s no urgency here, no agenda, and the only real plans are walking the dogs in the surrounding forest.

We have availability from November, and you won’t want to miss the magic that autumn brings here.
