🌧️ It might have been a wet day in the Forest of Dean, but that hasn’t stopped our guests getting out exploring!

Finlay came back from the Sculpture Trail a little wet and muddy… luckily our dog wash was ready and waiting! 🐾

Our butler sink, gentle dog wash soap and towels mean muddy walks are no problem here.

Because at Parish Mill Holidays, dogs really are welcome! 🐶❤️

🏡 A little look around Mill Cottage...❤️

I thought I'd give you a little glimpse of what you can expect when you arrive.

Every detail of the cottage has been carefully chosen and put together by me.....with,of course, David's very important input! 🤣

He likes to think he has a say in the decor, although im not sure how often his suggestions actually make it through to final decision! 🤪

I've chosen paintings from local artists and lots of little touches to create a cosy, comfortable and homely feel. There are books and games for relaxing evenings and of course a few treats waiting for you when you arrive. ☕️🍰🍞

I really want Mill Cottage to feel like a home from home - somewhere you can walk through the door, put your bags down and instantly relax.

And when you're ready to head out, the beautiful Forest of Dean is waiting to be explored. 🌲🍂

I hope you love Mill Cottage as much as we do....even if I do make most of the decisions! 🤣❤️

🌿 A little local collaboration we’re rather excited about… 🌿

If you’ve stayed with us at Parish Mill Holidays, you’ll know we love supporting other local, family-run businesses — and this one is a particular favourite of ours.

We’ve been visiting TheFairviewGardener&TheTeaRoom & tea rooms for many years. It’s family run, has a brilliant garden centre, a lovely café and, most importantly… great food and great owners! ❤️

It’s somewhere we genuinely wouldn’t go anywhere else, so we’re delighted that we can now offer our guests 10% off breakfast at their tea rooms. 🥐☕️

So, if you’re staying with us and fancy heading out for a lovely breakfast, you can enjoy a little discount while supporting another local family business.

Good food. Great people. Local businesses supporting local businesses. 🌿❤️

And, of course, there’s always the garden centre to have a mooch around afterwards… although I can’t promise you’ll leave without buying something! 😂

A little afternoon mooch… and a little shopping! 😂

I popped along to h.art Herefordshire art week at St Mary’s Church in Ross-on-Wye, a beautiful setting filled with some incredibly talented local artists and makers.

It’s such a lovely place to mooch around, admire all the artwork and, of course, stop for a cuppa and cake! ☕️🍰

It was lovely to catch up with Lisa Lisa Dear and Sarah Delahoy Sarah Delahoy Printmaker

I can never seem to walk away empty-handed, especially when there are so many beautiful things.

I came home with a gorgeous salt shaker from Caroline Davies a beautiful piece from Sarah, which will have a new home in our cottage. ❤️ and some gorgeous little paintings from Lisa for a friend's birthday.

I absolutely love supporting local artists, and I think it makes it even more special when their work becomes part of Parish Mill.

A little bit of work… with a very good view! 🌅

I always try not to work when we’re away, but when you run your own business, sometimes you just can’t switch off completely.

In five days I took 7 bookings — definitely my busiest little break ever! 📖✨

So there were a few moments of checking the calendar, replying to enquiries and confirming bookings… but honestly, I didn’t mind one bit when this was the view I was working from. ❤️

It’s the reality of running your own holiday cottages — you don’t always get to completely clock off, but we’re very lucky to love what we do.

Now back home, and getting ready for a very busy September at Parish Mill Holidays! 🏡❤️

Back from a lovely holiday and straight back to work! 😂

Today we had our electrician Andy from Breeze Electrical Solutions here sorting out an electrical fault with the bedroom lighting.

We’ve known Andy for over 10 years and he’s looked after all our electrical work since we moved here and started our holiday let business. He’s reliable, always helpful and knows how important it is for us to get things sorted quickly.

And today’s job involved lasers, a hole in the ceiling and Andy on the bed… it looked more like a laser game than an electrical job! 😂🔴

Running a holiday business takes so many people behind the scenes, and without reliable, skilled tradespeople like Andy, we simply couldn’t do what we do.

So today, it’s a big shout-out to Andy and Breeze Electrical Solutions. Thank you for always being there when we need you! 👏🏻🔧⚡️

And hopefully… no more holes in the ceiling for a while! 😂

We’ve disappeared for a few days… any guesses as to where?

David and I have escaped for five nights before the autumn bookings begin and, although I absolutely love what we do, I think even the owners of a holiday cottage need a little break now and then! 😂

September is already looking very busy for us, with the Lodge practically full and every weekend in the Cottage booked.

So we’re making the most of these few days away before the changeovers, cleaning, baking, laundry and welcoming guests begins again.

And after spending so much time making sure everyone else has a lovely stay, it’s been rather nice to be the ones being looked after for a change. 🧡💛

We’ll be back soon… refreshed and ready for autumn at Parish Mill Holidays. 🍁

✨ A little glimpse into what our guests say…

We could tell you how much we love our little corner of the Forest of Dean… but we think our guests say it much better. 💛

Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to welcome so many wonderful people to our two cottages, and reading their reviews is honestly one of the best parts of what we do.

From comments about the gardens, the little touches, the peace and quiet and the hot tubs… to those lovely messages telling us they didn’t want to go home! 🥹

And then there are the reviews from our younger guests… 🥰
 Because apparently, “I don’t want to go home” is the ultimate five-star review!

Every handwritten note, every lovely message and every review means so much to us. We put a lot of love into making Parish Mill Holidays somewhere special to stay, so it’s wonderful to know that our guests feel it too.

The hot weather has certainly turned our field golden!

I took this photo while out and about and loved how atmospheric it looked.

We have lots of little corners around Parish Mill that are perfect for photographs, from our sculptures and gardens to the stream, wildlife and countryside views. 📷🌿

Perhaps it's time we added “photographer friendly” to our list of things we offer! 😉
