Merry Christmas lovely leaseholders!
We have had a busy year here at L&W towers and we are looking forward to a nice break. The office closes on 23rd and opens again on 4th Jan.
Exciting times ahead, with Keith Chew and Michael Cannon now retired, so our lovely Sarah Abel is at the helm!

The government's Leasehold (Ground Rent) Bill has been published and we are following it's progress through parliament. No great surprises, except that leaseholders may be able to claim ground rent back from their landlords under current proposals

Following on from the government's surprise announcement regarding changes to leasehold law, we now expect the draft bill banning ground rents in mid spring. The large scale root and branch changes to the current law, including to how the price is calculated is now expected much, much later (in excess of a year). We will know more about this in late summer.

In short, don't delay because you think the law is changing very soon, we do not expect changes to price or length for about 5 years.

Leasehold made headline news today with the government annoucement that they will adopt large parts of the Law Commission report.

We are on hand to provide advice to clients and anyone looking to extend their lease. I fear we are still in for a long haul before change truely happens, but this is a very positive start!
