We asked De Beauvoir local emily ash powell – writer, brand consultant and author of Hurdling with Emily Ash Powell – to share her guide to getting the most out of London (and De Beauvoir in particular!) on the cheap.
🍕 Local tips: Elite pizza, life-changing courgette fritters and basil aioli at Sweet Thursday
🥛 Bonus points if you’re ever in De Beauvoir and you spot local milkman Barry Hudson on his rounds – he’s been delivering milk in the area for over 40 years!
🥯 Grab yourself a £3 bagel from the hatch outside The De Beauvoir Wholefoods if you’re in the mood for something cheap and easy
🥪 Or pop into Leigh’s for a toastie (it’s Emily’s local hidden gem!)
🫏 Emily’s favourite free thing to do in London is visit Hackney City Farm for a pottery class, some woodworking or to see the animals
🚶🏼♀️And she likes to get out and about when she’s working on her newsletter! Either a walk along Regent’s Canal, a cycle along Upper Street or swimming at London Fields Lido
🚎 Plus, if Emily were Mayor of London, she’d bring back the old Routemaster buses
Emily also writes Hurdling with Emily Ash Powell – a newsletter that looks at how we get over the things that get in our way. It’s amazing and you should absolutely sign-up!
