"Women are under-represented in rough sleeping statistics and provision, yet research, lived experience, and the experiences of services tell us that women are some of the most vulnerable within the rough sleeping population" - Solace Women's Aid
This week our Luna Project team are taking part in the 2026 Women's Rough Sleeping Census across Enfield and Haringey. The women's census project was started in North London 5 years ago by SHP and Solace, but is now being done in boroughs across the whole country.
Throughout this week, our Luna team have been carrying out additional street outreach, taking on shifts starting at 5am and others that end at midnight. We are aiming to find as many women as possible who are experiencing homelessness in different forms – rough sleeping, sofa surfing, walking around all night, sleeping in train stations or McDonalds, or staying with unsafe people in exchange for a bed.
As well as reaching women who may need help, this kind of research helps to build a clearer picture of the true scale of the issue of women's homelessness. Accurate data means we can do things like advocate for more funding and create services which meet the real need.
We're proud to be contributing our local knowledge and experience through The Luna Project, helping ensure women experiencing homelessness in Enfield and Haringey are counted.
