Some empty homes are obvious. Others are much easier to miss.

Overgrown gardens, boarded or broken windows, post piling up, bins that never move and a general lack of activity can all be signs that a property may have been sitting empty for a while.

You don’t need to investigate or step onto the property — just keep your eyes open when you’re out and about.

Found an empty house miles from anywhere? It might look like the perfect project — but location matters too.

We’re generally looking for properties in places where people actually want and need to live.

That means nearby homes, schools, shops, transport links, jobs and an established community around the property.

A house surrounded by nothing but fields might be beautiful, but if there’s very little demand for homes in that location, it may not be the right opportunity for us.

So when you’re hunting, think beyond the condition of the building. 👀

Are there people living nearby? Schools? Shops? A town or village within easy reach?

If yes, send it in. We’ll take a look. 🏡📸

A metaphor for Britain right now? 🇬🇧🏚️

Planes disrupted. Potholes across our roads. Schools and hospitals in need of modernisation.

A lot can feel tired, neglected or simply not working as well as it should.

And then this lead landed with us in Essex — an unmodernised house, showing its age, with a Union Jack still flying outside.

There was something quite fitting about it.

Despite the decay, there’s still pride. Still potential. And still the belief that things can be fixed rather than simply left to decline.

That’s pretty much our philosophy at Empty Property Hunters.

We can’t fix everything. But we can do our bit — one empty home at a time. 🇬🇧🏡

Spotted us on BBC Morning Live? 👀📺

One of our most prolific hunters, Paul from Lincoln, appeared in their feature on side hustles, sharing how spotting long-term empty homes has earned him thousands of pounds.

And the best bit? He was already out and about when he found them.

No stock to buy. No products to sell. No business to set up. Just knowing your local streets and keeping your eyes open.

With research from Finder suggesting 46% of UK adults now have a money-earning side hustle, Paul has found a slightly different one. 🏚️💷

From the street, an empty property isn’t always immediately obvious. Head around the back and years of neglect can tell a very different story.

Overgrown gardens, vegetation taking over, forgotten outbuildings and spaces that haven’t been touched in years — they’re all clues that a property could be long-term empty.
