🏃‍♀️🏃 Great North Run Weekend – Plan Your Journey! 🏃‍♂️🏃

It’s one of the biggest weekends in the North East calendar! 🎉 With the AJ Bell Great North 5K, Junior & Mini Great North Run and the Great North Run all taking place this weekend, there will be significant road closures across Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside.

If you’re staying with us, travelling into the city or heading out to support the runners, please plan ahead, allow extra time and use public transport where possible. Great Run is also advising motorists to be aware of existing restrictions and roadworks around the Tyne Bridge area.

🏃 Friday 11 September – Great North 5K: Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides will be affected from the afternoon, with closures including Quayside Road, Sandhill, Swing Bridge, Close, Bottle Bank, Pipewellgate and South Shore Road/Hillgate. Most closures are in place between approximately 3pm and 9pm, with Quayside Road closed from 2pm Friday through to 8pm Saturday.

👟 Saturday 12 September – Junior & Mini Great North Run: Further Quayside closures will be in place, including Sandhill, Swing Bridge, Close, Bottle Bank, Pipewellgate and South Shore Road/Hillgate, generally from 6am until 7pm. More than 13,000 youngsters are expected to take part in this year’s 40th anniversary event.

🌊 Sunday 13 September – Great North Run: The main event will see 65,000 runners travel from Newcastle’s Central Motorway, across the Tyne Bridge, through Gateshead and onwards to the finish in South Shields. Extensive road closures will be in place along the route and surrounding areas, so journeys across the region may take considerably longer than usual.

💙 Whether you’re running, supporting or simply travelling around the North East this weekend, give yourself plenty of time and enjoy the incredible atmosphere that the Great North Run brings to our region.
