Today’s range comprises over 200 bunded and single skin oil tank storage solutions. Wide choices of tank capacities are available, from 350 litres to over 10,000 litres, which will suite applications like oil storage for home heating through to various commercial applications like agricultural equipment such as farm tanks including fuel storage and fuel stations for vehicles. ➡Oil is toxic and harmful to the environment, including animals, plants and water sources.
➡It you spot a leak, put a bucket/container under it straight away to prevent spillage.
➡If the pipework or filter is leaking, this should be fixed immediately by an Oftec registered professional.
➡If the tank itself is leaking, seeping or showing signs of spitting, this should be replaced as a matter or urgency.
It's against the law to cause pollution, so you should call the National Pollution Incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60 (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) or 0300 065 3000 (Wales).
It can cost thousands to clean up an oil spill.
Check that your insurance: has a high enough liability limit to cover the cost of cleaning up your property or neighbouring land covers the cost of replacing lost, leaked or stolen oil covers environmental clean-up for accidental loss.
Not all insurance policies cover oil leakage.

1st of the month ....Check your oil tank today !!

With the colder months now along way behind us it’s advisable to check your oil tank for any damage or deterioration.

We recommend doing a quick tank check every month, inspecting damage and oil levels. Here’s our quick checklist to make sure your tank is in the best of condition.

Check for damage, such as bulges, deep scratches, cracks, discolouration, rust or major dents.
⏩Look out for any oil that has leaked out, particularly around pipes, valves and seams.
⏩Make sure that any external protection, such as a bund (scroll up to find out more), isn't filled with water, oil, rubbish or weeds.
⏩Keep access to and around the tank clear.
⏩Make sure vents, gauges and access points are closed and protected so that rainwater, insects or dirt can't get in.
⏩Check that gauges and alarms are working correctly, including their batteries.

Although we are only in August, now is the time to start preparing for colder months and checking the condition of your oil storage tank.
The sad reality is tanks don’t last forever and the average lifespan of a fuel storage tank is between 10-15 years.
However, tanks may still have a working life after 15 years with careful maintenance.
We would always recommend checking your tank every month or so, or more often if it is more than 10 years old.
Plastic oil storage tanks cannot be repaired once they have started to deteriorate, therefore noticing the signs of a fault developing is essential to prevent an accidental spill.

If you are planning to harvest your rainwater into a specialised tank, do make yourself familiar with the Health & Safety rules first!

1. Never drink collected rainwater that has not been filtered. While you can use filtered water for gardening, landscaping, and washing cars, it’s important that the water collected goes through a decontamination process before it can be consumed.

2. Never water vegetables with collected rainwater that has not yet been filtered. Instead use the unfiltered rainwater for gardening, use it on flowers, trees, shrubs, as well as other types of plants that are not edible.

3. Never use harvested rainwater for a paddling or swimming pool. Any bacteria, parasites, fungi or even viruses on it are harmful to the skin, eyes, mouth, and even internal organs.

4. Never allow collected rainwater to pool anywhere in your property or in your collection system.

5. Make sure that every storage tank is secured. Water storage tanks are bulky and could cause injuries if they fall on people and they are also drowning hazards so need a secure lid.
