Many of the houses along the street and town are Grade II listed, and The Swiss Cottage is part of a conservation area, and valued as a place of local interest to be maintained for years to come. There is a double story flat roof section to the house at the rear, built in the 1950s and accommodating the Kitchen and additional bedroom and reading room. The front faces a westerly direction, offering the back garden both morning and evening sun opportunities each day. Enjoy an evening Pimms in the summer house at the back and escape into your private haven.

Updating and relaunching The Swiss Cottage website has been such a fun, creative and enjoyable personal challenge. One of my favourite pages on the new site is the Local Recommendations page, where I’m gradually adding more of the places we love and can genuinely recommend from personal experience.

Yorkshire Arboretum Cafe and the wonderful accessibility of the Yorkshire Arboretum Parkland at Castle Howard have now been added! 🌳

It’s a really lovely recommendation for anyone visiting North Yorkshire, with its red squirrel enclosure, plenty of parking, a great café with friendly staff, and — particularly importantly — mobility scooters available to borrow, helping more people enjoy and explore this beautiful place.

And with the autumn colours soon to be putting on a spectacular show, it’s a perfect time to make your way there and celebrate nature in all its vibrancy. 🍂
