Week 6 on our Wood Green loft conversion

It’s been a busy summer and we’ve got some overdue updates from the various projects we’re working on, starting with this one.

Roofing is complete and the plastering is done, so this week has been all about the staircase, the piece that ties the whole conversion together.

A brand new staircase has gone in to give access up to the loft, built and fitted from scratch with turned newel posts and spindles to match the character of the rest of the house. You can see it winding up from the first floor landing, past the existing stairs below, right up into the new space.

Upstairs, the rooms are plastered and drying out nicely, with skirting and door linings already in and the first fire door hung. Once the plaster’s fully cured we’ll be moving on to flooring, painting and second fix, the stage where it really starts to look like finished rooms rather than a building site.

Getting a new staircase in cleanly is one of the trickier parts of any loft conversion, especially in period properties in North London where space and existing stairwells can be tight, so it’s always satisfying to see it done well.

Week 3 on our rear dormer loft conversion in Bounds Green 🏠

This project will give the homeowners two new bedrooms and a bathroom once it’s finished, and this week the roof really started coming together.

The main dormer structure is now fully clad in natural slate, hand cut and hung course by course, with lead flashing dressed in along the hips to keep everything watertight. The two Velux windows are in on the rear slope too, letting plenty of light into what will be one of the bedrooms.

Round the side, the smaller box section has had its breathable felt and timber battens going up ahead of cladding.

This stage is always a good one for us. The roof takes shape and the shell starts to feel like an actual room rather than scaffolding and studwork. The next few weeks are all about getting it weathertight before we move inside.

Haringey Loft Conversion coming along nicely.

The shell is now being built, which is always a really important stage of the project. This is where the new structure starts to take shape and you can begin to see the scale of the space being created.

This large dormer loft conversion will include two en-suite bedrooms, making a huge difference to the layout and practicality of the home.

At this stage, the focus is on forming the dormer structure, building out the roofline and preparing the space for the next steps, including windows, insulation, first fix plumbing and electrics.

We’ve started work on a large L-shaped dormer loft conversion, which will create a huge amount of extra space at the top of the property.
