๐๐ก Welcome to your New Student Pad in Swansea ๐ก๐
So, you've just moved into your new rental property in the heart of Swansea....whether itโs your first time or youโve done this before, hereโs a quick guide to help make the transition smooth and stress free. ๐
๐ 1. Take a Good Look Around Your Property
As excited as you are to arrive at your new Digz, before you unpack that first bag, do a quick tour of the property. Check for any damage, like cracks, stains, or broken fixtures. Take photos of everything and make a note for your landlord or letting agent. Itโll save you trouble when it's time to move out. If you are in one of our managed properties, simply send any photos you`d like added to the inventory to [email protected] within the first 7 days of occupation. Make sure you include the property address and which rooms the photos relate to ๐ธ
๐ 2. Know Your Occupation Contract
Make sure you understand all the terms and conditions. Make a note of your rent due dates, whether bills are included or not, and the responsibilities of you, your housemates and your landlord. Knowledge is power, and a stress-free student year starts with understanding the small print. ๐
๐ก 3. Set Up Your Utilities & WiFi ASAP
One of the first things you'll want to do is set up your electricity, water, and broadband. Nothing worse than trying to do your coursework in the dark or without WiFi. If you prefer to take the stress of managing bills away, simply give the Studentdigz Team a call and we can arrange a quotation for a bills inclusive deal. One simple monthly payment which includes all the bills, with or without a fair usage policy ๐ถ
๐งน 4. Get the Place Clean (or Re-cleaned)
Make sure the property is in tip-top shape. If the previous tenants didnโt leave it sparkling, give the place a deep clean. Itโll feel more like home and is a good way to start fresh โจ
๐ 5. Know How to Report Issues
If somethingโs broken or doesnโt work, know who to contact. It is your responsibility to make sure issues are reported in a timely manner. Having a clear line of communication can save you time when something needs fixing. Here`s a link to the Studentdigz Homepage where you will find a button to report "Report Maintenance" https://www.studentdigz.com/ ๐ง
๐ธ 6. Keep Track of Rent Payments
Create a system for keeping track of rent payments. Missing a payment can lead to extra stress (and fines), so set reminders to pay on time. Better yet, set up a standing order so the rent is paid on time each month to avoid the added stress of rent reminders and fines. Make sure you set the future last rent payment date when you set up the standing order to avoid overpaying your rent once the Contract has ended ๐
๐ฑ 7. Respect the Neighbours
Youโll meet new people, but donโt forget your neighbours. Keep noise levels in check, especially during study time or late at night. A little bit of respect goes a long way. ๐
๐ 8. Security is Key
Check the locks on windows and doors to make sure everythingโs in working order. Being in a new area, itโs worth taking a few extra precautions. Never leave the front door to your property unlocked, even if you are in shared house. It`s much safer to make sure every housemate has the correct keys and you all lock the doors each time anyone leaves. Never assume there is a housemate still at home and leave without locking the front door๐ก
๐ญ 9. Know Where Your Local Amenities Are
From food shops to your nearest bus stop, find your essentials early. Knowing where everything is will help you get settled quickly and avoid last minute panics. ๐๐
๐ 10. Enjoy Your Time Here!
Swanseaโs got so much to offer. Take a break from studies, explore the beaches, try some local eateries, and make the most of your student experience.
Good luck settling in. Let us know what your favourite part of Swansea is (or will be soon) ๐ฌ๐
