8 most important questions to ask before buying a family land.
Buying family land is not just “go and pay money.”
It is where many people enter problems that will now need prayer and lawyer.
Before you buy, ask these 8 important questions:
1. Who is the actual owner of this land?
Not “we are all family.” Who exactly has the legal right to sell?
2. Is there any existing dispute or court case on this land?
A land can be smiling in front, and fighting in court behind.
3. Has this land been sold before?
Double sale of land is not a myth. It is a Nigerian reality.
4. Is there a family consent or authority document?
If it is family land, where is the agreement of all necessary family heads?
5. Is there a proper survey plan and beacon numbers?
If there is no survey, you may just be buying “imaginary boundaries.”
6. Has this land been allocated or encumbered by government?
Don’t buy land today and tomorrow government will come with bulldozer greetings.
7. Can I see the original documents (not photocopy story)?
Original title documents matter more than sweet explanations.
8. Has a lawyer reviewed everything before payment?
Because when trouble starts, everybody will now say “I was not around when you bought it.”
FINALLY,
In land matters, silence is not wisdom. Due diligence is protection.
Buy land with your eyes open, not your emotions leading.
