Here's a word of advice from Jack and Sue - our business owners...

Sue: "Tenant selection is everything. Take the time to properly vet applicants, references, income, and landlord references. The right tenant makes all the difference."

Next I'd say, Treat it like a business. Set clear processes for agreements, inspections, and collecting the rent. Make sure to stay on top of maintenance to avoid surprises down the track."

Jack: "Know the legislation and know it well, get healthy homes compliant before you even advertise the property. We suggest using All Clear Group for their Healthy Homes and Smoke Alarm Assessments.

I also always recommend using a platform like myrent.co.nz. If you're going to DIY, something like this will really help."
