The Monetary Policy Committee today reached consensus to increase the Official Cash Rate (OCR) 25 basis points to 2.75%. This will help bring inflation back to 2% while supporting jobs and the economy.

• Inflation rose to 4.1% in the June 2026 quarter as fuel prices rose due to conflict in the Middle East. We expect inflation to return to within our 1-3% target range in the middle of next year, and to 2% by the end of the year.

• The economy is recovering, despite interruption from the conflict. Businesses are reporting stronger activity over the past couple of months - this will encourage businesses to hire more staff.

• Future decisions about the OCR will depend on how inflation and the wider economy develop.
